Immersive Theatre Workshop
What if you could create a performance that doesn’t just tell a story but pulls people into it—where the audience doesn’t sit back and watch but becomes part of the world you’ve built?
Immersive theatre does just this.
No longer a niche genre, immersive theatre is taking the world by storm. Productions like Sleep No More, The Great Gatsby Immersive, Cabaret and Then She Fell, have redefined how audiences engage with stories, breaking the fourth wall and turning passive viewers into active participants. Writing and rehearsing are no longer about static stages and fixed scripts, but rather about crafting dynamic, interactive environments where every choice and movement adds layers to the narrative.
So, what makes immersive theatre so captivating for creators? It’s the opportunity to experiment with site-specific locations, work in parallel action, and interact directly with your audience—giving you the power to sculpt an experience that is as unpredictable as it is unforgettable. These productions offer performers and creators the freedom to break from traditional limitations and embrace storytelling that unfolds dynamically in real time.
The result is theatre that’s interactive, intimate, and unforgettable.
But here’s the catch: creating and performing in immersive theatre requires a unique set of skills that go beyond traditional acting. Mastering these techniques can give you a serious edge as a performer, director, or creator in today’s theatre landscape. That’s where this workshop comes in.
Our first workshop of the season: Immersive Theatre
Immersive creation requires a whole new way of thinking about performance. The ability to engage with audience members directly, adapt in real-time, and perform in non-traditional spaces takes a high level of versatility, confidence, and creativity.
Whether you’re an actor wanting to sharpen your improvisation skills or a director curious about creating in site-specific locations, this workshop will give you the tools to excel. You’ll learn how immersive theatre breaks the traditional performer-audience barrier, allowing participants to take control of the narrative while still working within a structured framework. You’ll explore techniques like parallel action, in which different storylines happen simultaneously across various spaces, allowing for a richer, more layered storytelling experience.
This kind of performance requires the ability to think on your feet, and interact in ways that make the audience feel like they are part of the unfolding drama, while keeping the narrative intact and both performer and guests safe. We’ll cover how to navigate these tricky moments while captivating and engaging.
What You’ll Learn
During the workshop, we’ll dive into topics such as:
Audience Interaction: Learn to engage viewers directly & safely, making each experience unique.
Parallel Action:Hone the skill of simultaneous storytelling across multiple locations, creating a more immersive world.
Site-Specific Storytelling: How to use non-traditional spaces to elevate the narrative.
Structured Improvisation: Techniques to keep performances flexible yet coherent.
With these skills, you’ll not only become a stronger performer but also gain a competitive edge in an industry that’s rapidly evolving toward immersive, site-specific work.
