Playwrights Project
We have shifted our focus.
For many years, ATC held an annual Young Playwrights Project that was dedicated to middle and high school students. Audiences may still view some of our past winners by clicking the appropriate pages. (All pages here refer to the former program. Please go to youtube.com/atcstudios to see some of our recent offerings).
While we still nurture young writers, we have now moved to a full Reading Series as part of our Fridays at the Studio Zoom programming. We are accepting full length plays as well as longer one acts. We will not consider pieces under 45 minutes long, except from our own students. We consider full length no longer than 2 hours, and reserve the right to only do a portion of accepted long plays.
These evenings are designed FOR the playwright as they explore/develop their pieces. If you already consider your play ready for production and are not looking for feedback, which could lead to revisions, then please do NOT submit.
Playwrights are welcome to submit pieces for review. Please always put SUBMISSION and the title of the play in the subject line. Those pieces accepted will be cast and featured at one of our public Zoom readings. The season runs September-July. Each reading is followed by a talkback with the audience so writers may get immediate feedback. Both parts of the evening are recorded for the writer’s use, and if cast and writers agree, the readings may then be edited and posted to YouTube.
You may check out some of our previous offerings on our YouTube channel.

Info on our final Young playwrights project (2020): The Road Less traveled
ATC is pleased to announce the Winners in our 2020 Playwrights Project, THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED! We enjoyed reading the many interpretations of this provocative phrase. The six finalists were cast, directed and featured on a zoom performance.
Audience Choice for the top three plays:
1) The Plan by Hannah Albano
2) The Greatest Treasure by Olivia Tomlinson
3) Say No to Bullying by the writing team: Jamir Dixon, Amisa Brown, and Raeneiva Gayle
Due to COVID, unfortunately only one of the winning plays was able to be filmed. You can check out “The Plan” here.
This program is made possible by funds from the Passaic County Cultural & Heritage Council, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
